About Tech at the Gap

Celebrating our eighth installment, Tech at the Gap is a one-day conference for web developers, digital marketing professionals, network and security specialists, managers, and anyone else who works in the tech industry. We work tirelessly to bring engaging and informative speakers from all across the country while offering our attendees the chance to connect with other professionals as they learn about the latest concepts and tools in the industry. Hosted at Rocky Gap Casino Resort in October, this annual event has become a must-attend for industry leaders in Western Maryland and beyond.

Western Maryland IT Center of Excellence

Tech at the Gap was established by the Western Maryland IT Center of Excellence, whose mission is to instill a high level of interest in Information Technology business development in Western Maryland while educating a local workforce to meet the demands of IT business retention, expansion, and attraction. The Center links regional Information Technology industry leaders with economic development & community partners to encourage business retention, expansion, and the attraction of new business within the IT sector in Western Maryland.

A Tech Workforce for Tomorrow

What We Do

Since establishment in 2014, the Western Maryland IT Center of Excellence has trained over 900 incumbent works in a variety of industry recognized training programs to include AWS Cloud, ITIL Foundations, CompTIA Network+ & Security+, EC Council’s Certified Ethical Hacker, PMP Project Management, and Cisco Networking among others.

The Center also supports entry level opportunities for job seekers through funding and coordination of internships and workplace essential skills training. Both job readiness and incumbent IT training as well as the overarching goal to present Allegany County as "Technology Ready" is the main focus of the Center. The Center is a collaborative hub for existing IT employers that delivers professional development opportunities by convening and development cutting edge technology lectures, industry leader forums, and information sharing.
